Australia Day plans for Colac Otway Shire
January 7, 2021

Colac Otway Shire Council is planning to host a special event for Australia Day 2021 featuring the annual Community Awards presentation, a Citizenship Ceremony and entertainment provided by local duo The Red Violets.

Colac Otway Shire Mayor Kate Hanson said Colac Otway’s Australia Day event would be at Colac Memorial Square and Council was looking forward to recognising the achievements of local Community Award recipients and welcoming four new Australia citizens.

“It will be a significant occasion for our community, particularly as it will be the first time in many months that we have been able to host a public event.

“The award presentations will provide an important opportunity for us to recognise local residents who have made significant contributions to our shire and their community.

“Colac Otway will host a Citizenship Ceremony for four local residents who have come from China, Denmark, India and Pakistan and now call Australia home.

“We will also be entertained by local performers The Red Violets, from 10.30am, and again after the formal Community Awards and Citizenship Ceremony.

“Australia Day in Colac Otway Shire is supported by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council, and I would also like to thank OCRFM and our local Scouts for their assistance,” Cr Hanson said.

“There will be a COVIDSafe Plan in place, and this year, there will be a maximum attendance of 300 with masks to be carried, physical distancing and registration essential.

“I encourage anyone interested in attending to register as soon as possible and I look forward to seeing our community members who can join us for the shire’s Australia Day event.”
