About This Website

This website was created as a community resource for locals, and visitors alike, with funding from the Apollo Bay Community Bank, Colac Otway Shire and The Apollo Bay News Sheet Inc..

The project to create the web page was auspiced by Otway Forum, and has been driven by board members of the Apollo Bay & District Community Bank with the intention of strengthening our sense of community and also to provide worthwhile information to the many visitors who come to our stunningly beautiful part of the Victorian south west coast.  A new incorporated group, Apollo Bay Community Website Inc., has since been established to oversee the administration of the website.

The initial What's On listings as well as a lot of other information have come from The Apollo Bay News and most of the initial contact details for the Community Groups and Venues for Hire have come from lists collated by Marj Morkham in 2008.  Thank you to Marj for passing those lists on to be included on this website.

Business and community group listings, advertisements and promotions on this website are restricted to organisations that are based in Apollo Bay or the surrounding district or that have clear and direct relevance to Apollo Bay and district residents or visitors.

Community Geographic Domain Name (CGDN)

cgdnapollobay.vic.au is a registered Community Geographic Domain Name.

A CGDN is an easy to remember intuitive locality based website address by combining your town or suburb's name with your state or territory.  These CGDNs have been reserved by .au Domain Administration (auDA) for all of community use.  auDA is the policy authority and industry self-regulatory body for the .au domain space.

What can the CGDN licence be used for?

The licence is solely for the purpose of operating a community website developed for the benefit of the entire local community.  The website should include all interests within the local community.

What are the benefits of a CGDN?

It is the easiest way for your community to be found on the internet through the website address itself.

A CGDN community website is one that truly represents your community due to the Policy Rules and Guidelines in place to preserve the names for use by the relevant community.

Provides a communication tool to help foster and develop stronger communities by promoting local economic activity and participation in social, cultural, learning and civic activities.  CGDN website groups can utilise this communication tool to springboard initiatives and engage the community.

Provides a "community of communities" that can share experiences and the ability to communicate with each other.

Who can apply for a CGDN?

Any community group which is a not-for-profit legal entity and or a special committee of local council and broadly representative of the local community.
