abmuseum 2 bwThe Apollo Bay museum - housed in the buildings from which the undersea cable connected Tasmania with the mainland - is operated by the Apollo Bay and District Historical Society.

It includes displays of relics from some of the shipwrecks and ships that were essentially the primary means of access before the Great Ocean Road and of the life of what was an extremely isolated community.

Saturday, Sunday 2-5pm

School Holidays

Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday - 2-5pm

Other times can be arranged depending on the availability of a volunteer to follow up with you your special interests in our collection.

Books and family histories

The museum has a very extensive range of histories of the people who created and sustained this remote community. 
Many books about the area, its people, life and the shipwrecks are available for sale, for example:

Meetings

Meetings are held at 10am on the 3rd Monday of the month at the museum.

 

Membership

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the history of the Apollo Bay district and costs $10.00 for an individual membership or $15.00 for a family membership, per year.
