Colac Otway Shire Council Calls for Meeting On Target Decision

Colac Otway Shire Mayor Cr Jason Schram said Council had made initial inquiries regarding the reason behind Wesfarmers’ decision to close Colac’s Target store and not convert to a Kmart, as has been proposed in some areas.
“I have requested a meeting with the company to discuss the announcement that Colac’s Target store will close next year,” Cr Schram said.
“This is not a reflection on retail in Colac or our community; this is a closure decision involving more than 50 Target stores across Australia.
“Wesfarmers has identified the potential growth and viability of Colac with the development of its other operations including Coles and Bunnings,” he said.
“Council will advocate strongly for the store to be converted to Kmart however if the closure goes ahead, Council will work to attract another retailer to the prominent building as quickly as possible.”
