Council approves extension for function room at Wye River Hotel
December 7, 2017

Colac Otway Shire Council has approved a planning permit for an extension to allow for a function room and deck at the Wye River Hotel.

Mayor Joe McCracken said councillors at December’s Planning Committee meeting were unanimously in favour of the proposal and supported investment in Wye River and on the Great Ocean Road.

“The addition of a function room at the Wye River Hotel makes perfect sense. It will provide a venue for different types of functions which will drive investment to Wye River and encourage all-year round visitation to the area,” Cr McCracken said.

“The extension of the function room is a great example of the optimism that is abundant in Wye River as the community continues to rebuild and renew after the bushfires.”

The approved proposal will involve the demolition of part of the existing building along with the five motel units and their replacement with an ancillary function room which would occupy a similar footprint.

The function room would seat 60 people, increasing the hotels total seating capacity to 190 patrons which is consistent with the maximum patron seating capacity already allowed under the general licence.
