COSCouncil names street, track and walk in honour of local families
March 23, 2017

Colac Otway Shire Council has named a street, a track and a walk in honour of three local families.

A road reserve at Elliminyt that extends from Sinclair Street South to Armstrong Street will become Hay Street, acknowledging the Hay family, who originally owned and operated a softdrink company in Colac.

Deputy Mayor Stephen Hart said the business operated from Main Street, Elliminyt for many years.

“Hay’s softdrinks are fondly remembered by locals, many of whom have childhood memories of the crates the softdrinks were delivered in. It was always a thrill when you were the one who got to choose the next flavour out of the crate,” Cr Hart said.

A track in Glenaire extending south-east from Sand Road will be named Denney Track. The Denney family were among the first European settlers in the area and still own land in the Glenaire area.

Meanwhile, a walking path in Seeberg estate, Apollo Bay will be named Judy Seeberg Walk, after a member of the family who has developed the estate.
