Support for a COVID-safe return to business

Colac Otway Shire Council Chief Executive Peter Brown is reminding all businesses with five or more workers that the State Government requires them to have a COVIDSafe Plan by next week.
“The government advice is that all businesses in regional Victoria will require a COVIDSafe Plan from 28 September for each open work premise with five or more workers on site,” Mr Brown said.
“I congratulate businesses across on the shire on their efforts and resilience, and acknowledge there is a significant amount of work ahead for businesses as they navigate a Covid-safe return, particularly our hospitality industry.
“Council is working with businesses across the shire to provide support wherever we can, and also make sure businesses understand their obligations under the current restrictions.
“Council’s Health Protection Team is visiting businesses to check and assist with advice on the State Government’s regulations around masks, sanitising and physical distancing to protect our community and protect all those businesses.
“Council’s Economic Development Team are consulting with hospitality operators on the development of additional outdoor dining opportunities and raising awareness of grants and financial support available.
“Local Laws, Planning and Economic Development officers are working together to streamline the approval process for businesses able to create outdoor dining options for customers.
“Colac Otway Shire will waive all fees for temporary, six-month permits associated with enabling outdoor dining specifically being approved to help people operate their business in accordance with COVID Restrictions,” he said.
“All businesses in regional Victoria with five or more workers must also comply with new requirements to have a COVIDSafe Plan in place and I urge business owners to find out what’s involved as soon as possible, complete the template and finalise their plan.”
