Tennis courts closed

March 27, 2019

Colac Otway Shire Council has closed tennis courts across the shire and is urging people not to use drinking fountains in the latest response to the COVID-19 situation.

Tennis Victoria has advised that all tennis activity should cease temporarily, including the closure of all tennis clubs and centres until further notice, in line with the continued escalation of social isolation measures.

Council chief executive Peter Brown said Council was contacting local tennis clubs and placing closure signs on courts but also relied on the community to adhere to the State and Federal Government directives to stop non-essential activity.

“Council is also relying on people to stay at home and not be out using public facilities whether that’s playgrounds and tennis courts or drinking fountains.

“Our staff are putting signs up, contacting user groups and sharing the message with the community as much as we can, but stopping all non-essential activity and reducing the spread of Coronavirus is everyone’s responsibility.

“Colac Otway have a large shire, and barricading playgrounds and turning off all drink fountains immediately isn’t possible,” Mr Brown said.

“Please use common sense, stay home and look after your families.”
