Letter from P Fillmore

21 October 2017

After a public meeting in Apollo Bay last week, many questions remain on the Barham Valley resort proposal.

How can Barwon Water supply a 1200 bed resort that will double the towns current population, when we already have water restrictions.

More water can’t be taken from the already under stress Barham river.

The Schedule to the Rural Activity Zone in the Planning Scheme specifically states that hotels are to be discouraged.

The zone was allowed by the community on those terms, end of story!

Development is meant to be “subservient to the landscape so as not to detract from the quality of the landscape”

Many, many questions remain unanswered.

Let’s hope this isn’t a repeat of the Great Ocean Green fiasco that cost Apollo Bay ratepayers untold dollars and stress.

The meeting overwhelmingly voted for “Colac Otway Shire to inform the developer that his plans are unacceptable and should be withdrawn”
