Great Ocean Road Update

VicRoads wishes the Great Ocean Road community a happy and safe Christmas.
We were delighted to deliver our promise this week of having two lanes available to traffic before the summer rush, which coincided with the Victorian Government’s $53 million Great Ocean Road resilience package announcement.
At Paddy’s Path, the first stage of the road side retaining wall is complete and the work zone is clear.
At the landslide site 500m east of Separation Creek, three retaining walls have been installed. The road surface has also been repaired and the guardrail replaced.
Funding announcement
The Victorian Government this week announced $53 million funding of geotechnical hazard mitigation works on the Great Ocean Road. The package will go towards the installation of further roadside remediation measures such as rock netting and retaining walls along the length of the touring route. This investment is on top of the $50 million joint funding from the State and Federal governments for upgrades and maintenance on the Great Ocean Road.

Voting is now open for the facade of the retaining wall at Paddy’s Path. Voting closes Friday 6 January.
Traffic Alert
Please be advised of changed traffic conditions for major events this summer.
Falls Music and Arts Festival
Road users are encouraged to allow extra travel time during the Falls Music and Arts Festival held off Erskine Falls Road near Lorne from 28 December to 1 January due to high traffic volumes. The speed limit will be reduced on Deans Marsh-Lorne Road.
Lorne Mountain to Surf Fun Run
Traffic will be managed along the Great Ocean Road from St Georges River to the pier in Lorne from 8am to 11am on Friday 6 January. The speed limit will be reduced and some delays are expected.
There are no road closures during the Pier to Pub swim on Saturday 7 January, however, traffic volumes will be high.
Weather
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting fine weather over the weekend and possible showers next week. While it is unlikely these conditions will trigger the threshold for a road closure, our geotechnical ground sensory equipment will continue to monitor conditions in case the situation changes.
