Tell Tales

26th October 2016

Sailing season starts 5th November. We are looking for beginners and experienced sailors to join our friendly, growing club.

There’s loads of opportunities to get out on The Bay for a sail. Use a club boat, sail your own boat (if you have one), jump on one of the larger yachts as crew or sail a 2 person flying fifteen. Sailing at Apollo Bay is very affordable. Membership is great value at $120 for an adult and $60 for youths (with family discounts).

Thanks everyone who contributed to last weekends working-bee. Especially to Ken and Pauline for a massive Paella night. Everything is now ship-shape for the new season.

So, a quick update of activity on and off-water now we’re in the last two weeks of pre-season training!

Pete and Suzie’s sailing practice continues in sunny Queensland! Bill, Damien, John and Bob raced down the coast of NSW in strong winds to get back for the working bee. John Snowdon’s been cruising the inlets of Tassie while Croc had a few weeks sailing in the Whitsundays. Meanwhile Interlude’s been up on the slip to scrape off all the old barnacles (not before time I hear you say!) and Ten+One should be out on the Bay for a practice this weekend.

And what of the dinghies? Morgan’s upgraded to a bigger Laser. Octavia and Maiya, our youngest members, have been out on the Bay practicing on their new Optimist. C’est Si Bon now has a mustard yellow keel – repositioned slightly we hear to generate a bit of extra speed by crew Col. (Mustard) Colman and now all ready for skipper Jane to test out.

Bourney and Anton have been getting in regular (and much needed) practice – with a spectacular capsize at the harbor entrance the other week. Miss Molly is now over the hill for last minute pre-race polishing! Mighty Affrodite’s now back on the water and Stefan’s re-rigged and anti-fouled Apollo Bay Community Bank and Great Ocean Road Trading Post so they’re in tip-top condition for club members to use.

And what of last seasons club champions? Well skipper Russell’s warm water training has taken him to Fiji and Bali while crew Andrew has prepared Wal for the season. That’s dedication!
