Council calls for EOI for Bluewater sports floor replacement
22 July 2016

Colac Otway Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest for the replacement of the stadium sports floor at the Bluewater Leisure Centre.

Chief Executive Officer Sue Wilkinson said the EOI process would enable Council to test the availability and capability of the market and potentially appoint a preferred supplier.

"There are several very complex processes running parallel at the moment," Ms Wilkinson said.

"In June, Council obtained an independent expert report and made a decision to replace the floor. The EOI is the first important step in this process.

"Parallel to the EOI process, Council remains open to negotiation if a solution for the floor can be reached outside court, particularly if that solution can produce a faster and more affordable resolution of the issue.

"The important thing to note is that this EOI process does not compromise any future contractual or legal processes."

EOIs will close in mid-August and Chief Executive Officer Sue Wilkinson said Council could rapidly transition into a construction process subject to how ongoing negotiations progressed.

"Installation of a new sports floor is estimated to take approximately six months from the point in time a resolution is reached and construction starts," Ms Wilkinson said.

"Council is working hard to getting our community back into the stadium as soon as possible."

The EOI for the floor's replacement calls for an engineered timber floor that meets Basketball Victoria and Netball Australia requirements and can be used for high-level basketball and netball.

Council has identified savings in the 2015-16 budget for the floor's replacement.
