Apollo Bay to Host Australia Day Celebrations in 2017
July 28, 2016

The seaside town of Apollo Bay will host the Colac Otway Shire's official Australia Day celebrations for 2017.

Council shares the hosting of Australia Day with towns throughout the shire through an annual expression of interest process.

Acting Mayor Terry Woodcroft said the winning submission by the Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce to host the event followed from the success of 'A Day in the Bay' 2016.

Council organises the official civic components including: flag raising ceremony, national anthem, citizenship ceremony and presentation of the Australia Day Awards. The host community is encouraged to showcase their town, local venues, artists and performers to a diverse range of residents and visitors.

Apollo Bay last hosted Australia Day in 2013 and Cr Woodcroft said Council looked forward to returning in 2017.

"Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce has proposed the theme of diversity and inclusion for the 2017 celebrations," Cr Woodcroft said.

"We are excited to again partner with the Apollo Bay community, to assist them in delivering a wide range of activities, including music, dance, games, amusement rides and more."

Colac Otway Shire Australia Day Award nominations are currently open, and Council is calling for nominations across five categories:
