Council funds additional opening hours at Apollo Bay Library and continues partnership with Corangamite Regional Library Corporation
July 28, 2016

Library services at Apollo Bay have received a boost with opening hours at the town's library to include three additional hours as part of a trial to increase accessibility.

The trial hours will be offered on Mondays 2pm – 5pm, commencing from 1 August.

Chair of the Corangamite Regional Library Corporation and Colac Otway Shire Councillor Stephen Hart said Council committed to funding the additional opening hours in the 2016-17 budget, in response to feedback from the Apollo Bay community.

"The Corangamite Regional Library Corporation has consulted with the community and determined the need for additional opening hours would be best met on a Monday between 2pm – 5pm.

"We encourage all Apollo Bay members to visit on Mondays to support the library and the new hours," Cr Hart said.

The library at Pengilley Avenue is now open for 18 hours four days a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Colac Otway Shire Council will continue its partnership with the Corangamite Regional Library Corporation for the next two years.

Acting Mayor Terry Woodcroft said the CRLC had provided a high standard of library services to the community and Council was pleased to continue working with the group.

"Specific to the Colac Otway Shire, the CRLC provides a great service to our community through our libraries in Apollo Bay and Colac, along with outreach services in Beeac, Beech Forest, Birregurra, Coragulac, Cressy, Forrest, Gellibrand and Lavers Hill.

"The corporation also delivers a range of programs for all ages with children's programs such as 'Rhyme Time' proving to be extremely popular," Cr Woodcroft said.

The CRLC was established in 1996 as part of a partnership between the shires of Colac Otway, Moyne and Corangamite, and Warrnambool City Council.

Cr Woodcroft said the role of the CRLC was to provide public library services through 12 static libraries, along with outreach services for 12 small towns across south west Victoria.

Council has appointed Cr Stephen Hart and Manager of Arts and Leisure, Ian Seuren to the CRLC board.

The development of the Library Service Level Agreement is a requirement of the Regional Library Agreement and meets required state legislation.
