Council to conduct survey to improve waste and recycling services
May 1, 2018

Colac Otway Shire Council will conduct a survey of the contents of residential waste, recycling and organics bins within the shire during May in an effort to further improve service options and recycling education.

A contractor will complete the survey by conducting a visual assessment of bin contents to determine household recycling patterns within Colac Otway Shire.

Information collected by the contractor will be used by Council to gain a better understanding of how residents are utilising the waste service.

Acting chief executive officer Robert Dobrzynski said bins would be collected on the normal collection day, although all bins may not be collected at the same time of day.

“The survey will assist Council to provide a better waste collection service to residents and ratepayers.

“With the current pressures on the waste and recycling industry, it’s more important than ever for Council to have a clear understanding of how this service is used within the shire,” he said.

Mr Dobrzynski wished to assure residents no individual household or personal information was used to inform the survey.

“The information collected on recycling patterns will only be used in an aggregated form and all waste will be disposed of as per normal processes,” he said.

Households whose bins have been assessed in the survey will be marked with a sticker. The survey will commence at 4.30am and bins may be emptied later than the usual time.

Any householder who would like further information on the survey being conducted is encouraged to contact Colac Otway Shire Council’s Customer Assist on (03) 5232 9400.
